At every turn in a person ‘s life there are decisions being made and choices being taken. We have almost come to the end of the year. I encourage you to take a brief moment to look back at how far you have come, reflect on lessons learnt in the year ending in the next two weeks and how you will use these lessons for an even better 2014.
So what is your plan for your career development in the new year? This is a good time to think about where you want to be in the next twelve months. There are many possibilities but you have to make a choice.
You might be considering a career change, investing in yourself by going back to school, leaving the corporate world and going solo as an entrepreneur or looking for greener pastures (I hope they are genuinely green).
There are decisions to be taken by you and choices to be made. For women the family dynamic has to be considered as well when making choices. Will you start a family or focus more on your career. Not making the choice yourself doesn’t mean a choice will not be made. Indeed it will be made but probably by someone else who isn’t you. Delaying doesn’t work either.
I received a story about a pregnant deer in labor, faced with a hunter on the right , a hungry lion on the left, a raging forest fire behind, a river in front of her and a dark cloudy sky about to rain above her. She had to make a choice. (I hope your life is not surrounded by such austere circumstances). She chose to focus on giving birth to her fawn. The story has a happy ending. A lightning bolt blinds the hunter on the right and he releases his arrow straight into the advancing lion knocking him dead. Immediately it begins to rain stopping the forest fire and allowing the deer to give birth to a healthy fawn.
Make your choices confidently. Interestingly the things you worry about will probably never happen. I plan for the future but I also live in the now.
I wish you all the best as you make your choices for and in 2014. I have some exciting plans in the new year so keep following and encourage your friends to do the same.
